Teenage Dreams
Too Many SunsIn 2018, friends Hugo Hugon (guitar and vocals) and João Cardoso (drums) came together and Too Many Suns was born. The seed was planted in a studio in Anjos, and within a few weeks, the five songs that made up their first EP Garden were created, produced in collaboration with Gonçalo Formiga from Cave Story.
With the addition of bassist Vasco Rato, the band recorded their first LP: Meaning of Light. The album was produced by Miguel Vilhena at Pontiaq Records studios and released in October 2020 in digital and cassette format. It’s an album of contrasts between light and shadow: ranging from introspective folk to springy pop, and to reverberating grunge and noise. The year 2021 brought a new EP, Quiet, exploring different styles from what the band had previously done, reflecting on internal journeys sparked by the stillness of those years.
In 2022, a new collaboration began with Simão Reis on guitar and keys, opening up new sonic horizons for the making of Reverie: an eclectic album true to the band’s style. It featured collaborations with artists like Surma and Beatriz Nunes, received airplay across major Portuguese radio stations, and was named one of the best albums of the year by Blitz and Mindies in 2024.
In 2025 comes Teenage Dreams, the first single from the band’s upcoming work. With echoes of Connan Mockasin and Mercury Rev, the band once again sheds all rules, and in their usual dance of guitars and keyboards, dives into contrasts in a psychedelic world to sing about the yearnings and conflicting emotions of adolescence.
Having played in the main venues in Portugal, it is with the prospect of new concerts that Too Many Suns will present Teenage Dreams, now with the support of Indie Music PT.
