Outros Fados

Fernando Girão

On this album, Fernando Girão returns to his roots, with a work about fado that, according to Carlos do Carmo, represents a "journey to the roots (of fado)... passing through the rhythms that confront us with the eternal doubts about (its) origin". In "Outros Fados", Fernando Girão interprets six of his own songs and reinvents four classic fados, including "Sardinheiras", composed by his father Fernando de Freitas and with lyrics by João Linhares Barbosa. On this album, Fernando Girão also features the participation of guitarist Arménio de Melo, who brings a new dimension to the Portuguese guitar outside the traditional context of fado. This album features sounds from Brazil, America, Africa and, of course, Portugal.
