Como é velha a modernidade
Fernando GirãoFernando Girão’s album "Como é velha a modernidade" is essentially a critical reflection on modern society, the human condition, and the loss of cultural, spiritual, philosophical, political, and introspective values.
Various themes critique the way society has evolved: consumerism, manipulation of the truth, and the loss of critical thinking.
The album questions wars, injustices, and global inequalities.
It speaks of the Portuguese spirit connected to the sea, to discoveries, and to saudade, reinforcing a historical and emotional identity.
It explores the inner world of the individual: doubts, dreams, fears, and the search for meaning in life.
It speaks of the mind and the inner space where we keep our fears and dreams.
Ultimately, the album champions the idea of questioning everything and seeking the truth, even if that entails conflict or sacrifice.
What we call “modernity” is often nothing more than old human problems—war, ignorance, inequality, and the loss of values.
The compositions were written specifically for each of the texts included in the album. In other words, whether spoken or sung,
the lyrics do not repeat, as they would in a standard song format.
The album comprises various musical styles without ever losing its central thread: World Music, Medieval Music, Spoken Word, Jazz, and Contemporary Folk.
There is an instrumental variety from track to track; some are built on strong, solid foundations created by many instruments, while others support the poems delicately with strings or harps, with the acoustic piano being the predominant instrument in most compositions. In some tracks, in addition to the lead vocal, there are also vocal interplay and vocal sounds—whether prominent or hidden.
