Marco OliveiraCaminho É Quanto Fica da Viagem, is the fourth studio album by musician and singer-songwriter Marco Oliveira. The phrase is taken from Fado das Nuvens, an unreleased song by José Mário Branco that serves as the motto for the narrative and continues the musical production undertaken by the composer on Marco Oliveira's third album - Ruas e Memórias - recorded in 2019 at the Valentim de Carvalho studios and released by Sony Music in 2021.
The story of the new album is inspired by the life of António dos Santos (1919-1993) a sailor and fado singer who travelled the seas for many years and embodies the stories of sailors featured in the songs.
In his day, he became known for the song Partir é morrer um pouco (To leave is to die a little), an intimate Lisbon tune with a unique style and a mournful voice singing the melancholy of those who leave their homeland. An intense song of return, travelling the quays of the world and carrying the nostalgia of fado with it.
The musical production of the album, as well as the arrangements and the sound of the poetic narrative, is by guitarist José Peixoto, one of the great Portuguese musicians and composers with more than two dozen albums recorded under his own name, as well as a notable presence in various groups such as Madredeus, El Fad and Lisboa String Trio.
The Ponto Zurca studio is the space that hosted the artistic creation under the technical direction of Sérgio Milhano.
In addition to original themes, the album contains poems by some of the most important Portuguese writers of the 20th century: Eugénio de Andrade, Sebastião da Gama, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen and Miguel Torga are some of the authors who will be featured in the line-up, after a long process of collection and literary immersion in partnership with actress Ana Sofia Paiva.
There are also two fados in the line-up: Fado Bizarro with the poem Fermoso Tejo Meu by Francisco Rodrigues Lobo (1580-1622) and Fado das Nuvens, an unpublished fado collected from the musical archive of composer José Mário Branco with the poem Tudo.
