Reencontro

António Norton

‘Reencontro’, António Norton latest album, is made up of ten songs; five poems of his own and five poems by the poet António Gedeão, his grandfather and a major figure in Portuguese poetry.
All the poems were transformed into songs with beautiful, poignant arrangements by Tiago Cordeiro and António Norton. The idea for this album was to create a dialogue, a conversation, a reunion between António Norton poetry and that of his beloved grandfather António Gedeão.

The album ‘Reencontro’ presents an enormous instrumental richness with the visit of various instruments such as the English horn, oboe, accordion, wind quartet, among others, which create environments and atmospheres appropriate to the emotions that emerge from the poetic intensity brought by the vocal interpretation.
The basic sound of the album ‘Reencontro’ is given by the string quintet, which builds marvellous melodies that envelop the poems sung. The guitar and piano are two of the instruments that most accompany the string arrangements.

‘Reencontro’ presents a fusion of musical styles, featuring pop, traditional Portuguese music and classical music. The poems were all set to music by António Norton, with the exception of ‘Fala do Homem Nascido’, written by José Niza and the first advance single from this album, released on 23 February with production by Tiago Cordeiro.

‘My grandfather always kept all the poetry I presented to him during my teenage years with great care and attention. I keep that gesture in a very special place.
This album is like a reunion of that sharing, of that unique and intimate moment.’
