Ana Catarina Pinto
A renowned and prolific violinist, researcher, author and violin teacher, she completed her PhD in Science and Technology of the Arts, with distinction, at the Portuguese Catholic University. She holds a Master's degree in Music Education, a Postgraduate degree in Music and a Bachelor's degree in Music (violin). A researcher and author of numerous publications in the field of music, her books include ‘O Arco -Contributos Didáticos para o Ensino do Violino’ (2016); ‘O Violino’ (The Violin) (2022); the unpublished critical edition and first recording of the complete works for violin and piano by Tomás Borba - mpmp (2025); and her most recent album Portugal por um Violino (Portugal through a Violin) (2025).
Among the numerous distinctions and awards he has received throughout his career, the following stand out: the award from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education (2013-14); a PhD scholarship from the Foundation for Science and Technology (2018-20), as well as his admission to the World Orchestra.
She has played the role of concertmaster in the following orchestras: ARTAVE, APROARTE, University of Minho Orchestra, Santo Tirso Orchestra and Com Spirito Orchestra, performing on the country's biggest stages. She has won awards in several competitions in her field and has performed several times as a soloist with orchestras. She has given numerous masterclasses throughout the country. She performs regularly with various ensembles and is frequently invited to sit on juries for competitions, auditions and festivals.
She was a violin teacher on the Master's Degree in Music Teaching at the Piaget Institute in Viseu, and a violin teacher and Course Coordinator/Director at the Alto Minho Regional Conservatory, the Alto Minho Professional Artistic School and the Ponta Delgada Regional Conservatory, with her class winning numerous national and international awards. She lives in the Azores and is a violin teacher at the Regional Conservatory of Angra do Heroísmo.
