Pain the Seven
não simão"Paint the seven" is a popular Portuguese expression often quoted by the modernist poet and painter Almada Negreiros.
In 2023, the band não simão released an album with this title, featuring poems by four Portuguese writers from three different centuries: Cesário Verde, Almada Negreiros, Ana Hatherly, and Cláudia R. Sampaio.
To share a glimpse of Portugal's literary legacy with a wider audience, some of the poems from "Pintar o sete" were translated, and the songs have been re-recorded in Englis with support of The BELEM project, Boosting European Lyrics.
Portuguese poetry and music now have a new and well-deserved opportunity to reach the international public.
