José Barros Navegante
José Barros Navegante was born in 1993 as a personal musical project, following work that included the founding of the group Bago de Milho (1983/87 — four years of existence and one album); the group Romanças (six years and two albums between 1987/1992) and various collaborations with Portuguese musical figures, such as Fausto, Rão Kyao, Isabel Silvestre, among many others. His connection to string instruments, polyphony and traditional Portuguese music in general, whether in courses on traditional instruments that he has given throughout the country, or in recordings and shows in the country and around the world, through groups that he founded or in the musical co-production of other projects (with Mimmo Epifani, from Italy; Festival 7Sóis7Luas in the Mediterranean world and around the world, etc.), give this project the enrichment and a sound that identifies José Barros' music.
Their last original album, À’Baladiça, was released in January 2018. In 2023, they celebrated 25 years of recording with the book/double album (the 10th edition): José Barros Navegante, 25 Years, 30 songs chosen from an already vast heritage that includes 11 released albums and more than 150 songs (almost all original) with this project alone.
With a new musical line-up, the 11th album release will be released in mid-November 2024 (it will be José Barros' 21st album as an individual) with the title: “EnRaizado".
