Carla Frias

Carla Frias, born in Vila Nova da Barquinha, began studying singing at the Choral Phydellius Music School and graduated in singing from the National Conservatory's Artistic Music School. She has a bachelor's and master's degree in Lyric Singing from the Lisbon Higher School of Music.

She made her debut in the world of opera at the Metropolitana Opera Workshop 2019/20, playing the role of Gianetta in G. Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore, directed by Jorge Vaz de Carvalho and conducted by Maestro Pedro Amaral.

In opera, she has brought to life characters such as Belinda in H. Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Berta in G. Rossini's The Barber of Seville, and Elle in F. Poulenc's La voix humaine.

In concert, her résumé includes G. Fauré's Requiem, A. Vivaldi's Gloria, and G. B. Pergolesi's Stabat Mater. G.F. Handel's Messiah, W.A. Mozart's Coronation Mass, J. Rutter's Magnificat, and G. Mahler's Symphony No. 4. 

Throughout her career, Carla has had the opportunity to learn from some of the most prominent opera singing teachers in masterclasses, including the renowned Russian soprano Anna Samuil, the acclaimed American soprano Melody Moore, and the renowned soprano Helen Lawson.

She has worked under the direction of some of today's most renowned conductors, such as John Nelson, Hannu Lintu, Michel Corboz, Lawrence Foster, Gustavo Dudamel, Lorenzo Viotti, and Martina Batič.

Carla Frias' talent has been recognized through awards and scholarships. In 2017, she received a scholarship from the GDA Foundation (Artists' Rights Management), and in 2021 she won 2nd Prize at the Lisbon Classical Summer Festival and 1st Prize in the Professional Voice category at the Gabriel Fauré Music World Competition in 2025.
