José Camilo e Seus Cúmplices
José CamiloIn the vertigo of uncertain times, those with the lynx eye of the suburbs find the answer to the difficult challenges we face. José Camilo has this insight and he also has the life experience that others will still lack. Reunited with his band, which he rightly calls Seus Cúmplices, Camilo recovers comic strip characters, heroes from his daily life, women from the suburbs who think about postponed dreams, boys with razors in their hands in daily struggles against their already written destiny. And it is from this man, sometimes outcast, sometimes prescribed, that these songs and this album emerge.
Anchored in an alternative rock sound, like the one that used to be made in Seattle, but also in the classic Portuguese rock that Jorge Palma incorporated so well, José Camilo and his band give us songs that are slow and fast, urgent and docile, from a romantic and lyricist who is tied - and rightly so - to his guitar and his riffs. Accompanied by the unstoppable rhythm of metronomic drums, a bass that propels when it has to, keyboards that always add something more and beautiful second voices that always appear at the right moment, the disc unfolds in a coherent and winning way, perhaps like never before.
To his lyrical and poetic experience is added this body of value-added instrumentals to sing about life in the suburbs, made up of real and heroic characters, of passion, love, sweat, blood and labour. The kid from that suburb grew up and the stories he carried with him, from his adolescence and pre-adulthood, were transformed into a canvas in album format: there was no need to title the disc, it's a disc by one man and the band he brought together. José Camilo e Seus Cúmplices is for all of us, but above all for those who believe that life can be so much better when we pick up a guitar and imagine a song sung at the top of our lungs.
